The Beast and The Beauty

The Beast and the Beauty (Yasuwa minyeo) is a 2005 South Korean romantic-comedy film. It involves voice-actor Dong-gun (Ryu Seung-beom), whose blind girlfriend Hae-ju (Shin Min-a) suddenly receives surgery to regain her eyesight. Having lied to Hae-ju about his appearance, the beastly Dong-gun chooses to undergo extreme measures to change his appearance, while promising Hae-ju that he will return soon. Meanwhile, Hae-ju bumps into the Joon-ha (Kim Kang-woo)—Dong-gun's high school friend whose appearance is how Dong-gun described himself to Hae-ju—and mistakes him for Dong-gun. This story sheds new light on the life of Joseon-era dancer, musician and poet Hwangjini, who made her art blossom even when her love was put to test. The series also depicts the tragic life of a woman who faces hardships due to her social status. Windstruck

PLOT

The film stars Jun Ji-hyun as Officer Yeo Kyung-jin, an ambitious young female police officer serving on the Seoul police department. One day while chasing a purse snatcher, she accidentally captures Go Myung-woo (played by Jang Hyuk), a physics teacher at an all-girls school, who was actually trying to catch the thief. Later, Myung-woo discovers the stolen purse, but just as he picks it up, Kyung-jin spots him and tries to arrest him again. Kyung-jin is then given the job of escorting Myung-woo through a dangerous district, only to be distracted when she tries to break up a meeting between Russian Mafia and Korean gangsters. With Myung-woo handcuffed to her, Kyung-jin almost single-handedly brings down the two rival gangs (although she is helped when she accidentally causes the groups to start shooting at each other).

The first half of the film, told from Myung-woo's point of view, details the couple's growing attraction and love for each other, which climaxes with a trip to the countryside where Myung-woo tells Kyung-jin that if he were ever to die, he wanted to come back to earth as the wind. Soon after, he is almost killed in a freak automobile accident, but Kyung-jin saves his life.

My Sassy Girl

PLOT

The film tells the story of a male college student, Gyeon-woo (Cha Tae-Hyun), and the Girl (Jun Ji-hyun) who is never named in the movie. Gyeon-woo just cannot seem to catch a romantic break. His prospects are so pathetic that even his mother tries to help, telling him to visit his aunt for two reasons. Firstly, because Gyeon-woo reminds his aunt of her son who drowned recently; secondly, because there is a girl his aunt wants to introduce him to. Gyeon-woo repeatedly puts off going to see his aunt.

The movie begins with Gyeon-woo on top of a mountain, speaking wistfully about a girl he knew two years ago that had buried a time capsule with him on that mountain. She had never returned like she'd promised. Next, one sees Gyeon-woo at a photo studio, having his passport photo taken. He is called by his aunt so that she can finally introduce him to the girl she's been trying to set him up with. The movie then flashes back to the past.

My Girl and I

Song Hye Kyo's debut movie "My Girl and I" is a heartwarming story about true love and happiness. The film starts in modern day Korea where we see Kim Su Ho (Cha Tae-hyun) return to his hometown after ten years to attend a reunion with his high school friends. He sadly strolls as he hears a female voice in his head calling out his name.

The next scene shows us Su Ho's three friends celebrating and talking about Su Ho. They doubt that he'll attend their reunion because he apparently hasn't gotten over some girl. It is said that on that day of their reunion, it is the death anniversary of a girl named Su-eun. To everyone's surprise, Su Ho enters and warmly greets his friends.

After celebrating, the four friends go to a lighthouse where Su Ho's friend shouts, "Bae Su-eun, my friend's brain is small but is filled with endless thoughts of you. Please let my friend go." Su Ho becomes emotional and starts to cry.

DANIEL RAZON, dubbed as the Philippines’ Mr. Public Service and Kuya Daniel, is host of several programs at UNTV 37, including his morning magazine-public service show Good Morning, Kuya.

Prior to UNTV, he was news anchor, commentator and public service host with some of the biggest networks in the Philippines. He started work in the broadcast industry as DJ and radio announcer.

Kuya Daniel Razon was born in Bulacan province, North of Manila, and was seen already with the gift in public speaking, paving his way to broadcasting. But his biography at his website revealed his present stints in media was miles away from his childhood dreams of becoming a medical doctor.

One of the biggest influences to his choice of career was his uncle, Bro. Eli Soriano of the Ang Dating Daan group (officially registered as Members Church of God International).

Kuya Daniel completed his Mass Communications degree at the Centro Escolar University (CEU) after the EDSA Revolution of 1986. His first work after graduation was with an FM station in Angeles City, Pampanga.

His other radio broadcast portfolio include disc jockeying with KYFM of Mabuhay Broadcasting System, Manila Broadcasting Corporation, DZRH and YESFM (then DWST). His radio moniker then was “Dr. Clark”.

His biggest break in television followed after he served as station manager with Capitol Broadcasting. He began TV works with Channel 4 for six years as news presenter of the station’s Balita Ala Una with Luella de Cordova and host of “Dakila Ka, Pinoy,” a public affairs program heralding the greatness of Filipinos in various fields and expertise.

At ABS-CBN he hosted a regular morning show with DZMM’s Gising, Pilipinas in 1997. His other programs in this station include: Companero y Companera,” “Abogado de Kampanilya,” “Pulso Aksyon Balita,” “Hoy Gising,” and “Pasada Sais Trenta.” For the Global Filipinos, Kuya Daniel became a reassuring and soothing presence in the “Kamusta Kabayan” program of ABS-CBN International’s, The Filipino Channel (TFC).

His landmark career in ABS-CBN opened the doors for countless opportunities.

Kuya Daniel moved to another TV giant, GMA 7 in 2003 to join the daily morning news magazine program, “Unang Hirit.” In this station, he frequented some of the network’s news and current affairs programs such as “FrontPage” and “Saksi”.

Currently, Kuya Daniel hosts and produces TV programs for UNTV 37. Among them is “Good Morning Kuya”. He also hosts the Bible-reading program in the same station titled, “Mapalad ang Bumabasa” (Blessed is he who Reads), Spotlight, and Munting Pangarap (Little Dream).

He is also a member of the Press Photographers of the Philippines.

Sad Movie (새드무비) is a 2005 South Korean romantic comedy film starring Jung Woo-Sung (as Jin-Woo), Im Su-Jung (as Su-Jung), Cha Tae-Hyun (as Ha-Seok), Yeom Jung-Ah (as Ju-Yung), Shin Min-Ah (as Su-Eun), Son Tae-Yung (as Suk-Hyun), and Lee Ki-Woo (as Sang-Gyu). It was the second film directed by Kwon Jong-kwan, following S Diary from 2004.

The film focuses on the stories about four relationships and their trials, pains, heartaches, and subsequent separations. The plot lines eventually connect in some way, but they remain unrelated for the most part.

The first story tells of a firefighter and his girlfriend named Su-Jung who works in a TV station as a news translator for the mute. She's waiting for him to propose, focused on the rationale that given his dangerous job, she likes the idea of him having to think of her, to hesitate for a while before jumping into danger. He, on the other hand, is waiting for that perfect opportunity, setting and all, before popping the question. The second story is about a deaf girl who works as a costume character in a theme park. There she meets a young artist who she begins to develop feelings for quickly; yet refuses to take off her mask in front of him for quite some time. The third story is of a mother and child. The mother was too busy to spend time with her young son, until an illness confines her to a hospital bed. There the mother and son begin to communicate more and more. Lastly, the story of a boy and girl who have just broken up. The girl's reason being that she needs a more stable guy with a good job. The unemployed ex-boyfriend goes off and finds himself a job helping other couples break up. Hoping that if he earns enough money, he could woo his loved one back.

The film was a relative success, with just over a million admissions in South Korea.It also received a strong showing in Japan, mostly thanks to the popularity of lead actor Jung Woo-sung.

I guess you really couldn’t say that Hong Kong filmmakers are trying to capitalize on the success of “Charlie’s Angels”, since I can think back to the early ’90s when “The Heroic Trio” made a splash. So just who is copying whom here? Regardless, “Angels” has helped to lend credibility to the notion of females who kick ass and still remain feminine at the same time. Hong Kong has already brought out “Naked Weapon” in 2002, and now we have Corey Yuen’s “So Close”, released in the same year. All of these movies fall into a subgenre I call Chicks Kick Ass.

The one formula that all Chicks Kick Ass movies have in common is the presence of three women (3 seems to be the magic number here), and everything else is left up to the imagination of the writer. In this case, writer Jeff Lau has teamed up Qi Shu (“The Transporter”) and Vicki Zhao (“Duel”) as sisters Lynn and Sue (respectively), two normal enough sisters who care for each other because they’re all the other have. Oh, and they also happen to be hired assassins. Karen Mok (“Shaolin Soccer”) makes up the third point of the chick trio, playing hardnosed cop Hong, who essentially assigns herself the task of bringing the sisters in.
